Step Up Springfield

What we are:
Step Up Springfield (www.stepupspringfield.org) is a community-wide campaign to assist Springfield Public School students in reaching proficiency in their academics and character development.

Step Up Springfield asks parents, community-based organizations, the religious community, businesses and other to “step up” and be accountable for the education of our children.

Step Up Springfield is the first initiative of its kind in the nation—the community-at-large is creating comprehensive, pro-active strategies to work in partnership with the school district to get all students to academic and character proficiency.

Campaign Objectives:

Primary objective:

Achievement of realistic academic and character proficiency targets for all Springfield Public School students, demonstrated by a consistent increase in Step Up Springfield assessment reports and ultimately in MCAS scores.

Secondary objectives:

• Decrease in Springfield Public School drop-out rates
• Decrease in truancy/increase in attendance
• Increased parental involvement
• Increase in youth employment
• Improvement of Quality of Life throughout region
