Literacy Request for Proposals (RFP)
March 9, 2026

The Irene & George Davis Foundation is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) to support literacy in Hampden County. Proposals are due May 1, 2026.

Massachusetts is focusing on literacy, prioritizing evidence-based reading instruction through legislative efforts as well as initiatives such as Literacy Launch. At this important moment, The Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation is eager to join in helping children become strong readers.

We seek proposals that support literacy in Hampden County youth. We welcome evidence-based literacy approaches, including efforts in early childhood programs, K–12 schools, after-school or summer programs, and other community-based initiatives.

Applicants must demonstrate a clear and established connection to Hampden County through existing programs or partnerships. Awards will be announced and disbursed in mid-June. Grants will be for one year, and award recipients will be expected to share a brief impact and learning overview toward the end of the funding cycle.

The maximum amount granted for any request will be $100,000. Cost efficiency will be considered in proposal review.

We welcome proposals from:

  • Public, charter, or private schools and districts
  • Nonprofits or community-based partnerships
  • Current Davis Foundation grantees and new applicants

Proposals must include:

  • A clear description of the literacy initiative, aligned with evidence-based best practices
  • A way to assess impact, such as pre- and post-reading assessment scores
  • Identification of partner organizations and roles
