The Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation invests in initiatives that help children and families in Hampden County, Massachusetts thrive.
The work of the Foundation is rooted in the belief that strengthening the building blocks of early learning, educational engagement, and economic opportunity creates a stronger future for the region and the state. The Foundation has proudly partnered with Hampden County schools, nonprofits, and community leaders for more than 50 years.
The Foundation makes grants in the following funding areas:
Early Childhood
The Early Childhood funding area focuses on the critical years from birth through age five, ensuring that all children have a strong start. The Foundation invests in initiatives that support caregivers and families in fostering nurturing, developmentally rich environments; child care programs in delivering affordable, high-quality early learning experiences; and professional development and supports for early childhood educators.

Youth Literacy
The Youth Literacy funding area is dedicated to ensuring that all children learn to read. Reading is a crucial milestone on every child’s path to accessing opportunity. The Foundation funds approaches grounded in evidence-based literacy instruction, including programs that directly serve children, and initiatives that support teacher capacity.

Innovation & Excellence in Education
The Innovation & Excellence in Education funding area supports schools and programs that foster high-quality learning experiences. The Foundation invests in initiatives that engage, challenge, and support students as they build skills, abilities, and knowledge; discover interests; and explore career pathways. The Foundation also funds initiatives that support educators as they learn, innovate, and explore new approaches so that every student has access to a high-quality education.

Youth Development
The Youth Development funding area supports engaging, enriching out-of-school experiences for young people. The Foundation invests in programs that promote well-being, build social, emotional, and leadership skills, and connect youth with caring adults. Through these opportunities, young people gain the relationships, confidence, and sense of purpose needed to successfully transition into adulthood.

Economic Development & Mobility
The Economic Development & Mobility funding area supports the economic vitality of the region. Investments include programs that foster employer partnerships, continuing education and skill development, credentialing, internships, and other on-ramps to high-demand, long-term employment. The Foundation also invests in initiatives that support entrepreneurship and regional growth, ensuring Hampden County leaders have opportunities to build the skills, capacity, and networks needed to start, grow, and sustain businesses.

Through the Community Support portfolio, the Foundation provides funding to organizations that offer services to and enrich the lives of people in Hampden County.
